Self-landing your kite
Kitesurfing self-landing online training course
Building the confidence to safely land your kite at any time by yourself
Feeling confident in your ability to land your kite by yourself in any circumstance is an important skill to develop not only to go Kitesurfing alone, but ensure you can safely self land in any situation if and when it's needed
While it's always best to have another kiter to help land your kite, the fact is, sometimes that is not possible. Unexpected things can happen and you can find yourself standing in a place you didn't plan to be, by yourself, wishing you could get the kite on the ground.
There are 4 main methods we use for self landing and use them depending on the situation we are in. While many times people are taught one method, in our minds, that is not adequate to feel competent.
An example of this was a time I was out on the water and the housing that holds the pin back on my safety leash broke. My kite was still attached by the chicken loop, but the safety leash was no longer attached to my harness. If I activated the safety system, the kite would be gone and was no longer an option.
I rode back to shore ok, but knowing there was no one to help me land, I was very thankful that I already knew another self landing technique that did NOT require the safety leash to land the kite (The typical method most people use)
"Knowing 4 methods to alternate between depending on the situation has really helped our kiting"
We are not pretending that these are the only ways to land, but they are what we use, they work great, and would be happy to share them with you.
Each method has its strength and weakness depending on the conditions. It's important to know WHEN to use each method and when NOT to.
To keep it simple, we have arranged them in a an easy to follow free video course.

2. How to self land in light winds.
As the wind drops, It becomes easier and easier to self land. Video 2 covers a fast and simple way to land in light winds.

The third video shows a method that is less talked about but worth knowing for in tight hazardous areas, or without the use of your safety line. When something unexpected happens, this self landing method will allow you to land your kite using only your hands and the kite.
4. Using an anchor.
In video 4, we go through the steps of using an anchor to land your kite. This can be done with a fixed rope or your own leash attaching to a solid object. In our experience, this is a must know self landing technique.
